The Super Food ABC to Z Healthy Eating Game

Hey Guys!

We're always looking for new ideas to encourage our families to try a wider variety of foods so we invented a new healthy eating game: The Super Food ABC to Z.

Every day we will find a new food beginning with the next letter in the alphabet and share a delicious recipe including them. We have also come up with some new Super Food cartoon characters to share with you from our new look website homepage:- www.thesuperfoodfight.co.uk/home - do you like it?

You can find out about all the new recipes we have tried this week so far. We've done from A to G - with more fun recipes to come over the next 2 weeks. We've shared them everyday on our Facebook page: The Super Food Fight and on Twitter: @thesffight. Play along with us, comment, like then share the fun.

Today's food is.... 'G' for Granola. Is it healthy or not?

We love it for breakfast at SF Fight HQ. What about you? It's not as healthy as it looks but you can add skimmed milk and have a smaller cereal bowl full. Granola makes a great cereal bar for energy with a packed lunch.

Ingredients: 2 cups raw, whole rolled oats (old fashioned porridge oats)

Preferably organic ½ cup raw nuts

Chopped ¼ cup raw seeds (sunflower or pumpkin seeds are great)

½ cup unsweetened dried fruit, chopped (optional)

2-3 tablespoons maple syrup or raw honey (or a combo of both)

2 tbsp virgin coconut oil or other healthy cooking oil (we used rape seed oil)

½ tsp vanilla extract or almond extract

1 large pinch fine sea salt

Method:

Preheat the oven to 300º F.

Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl and use your hands to mix well

Spread the mixture in a thin layer on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes, until very lightly toasted.

Cool before serving or storing. (This granola can be kept in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 2 weeks.)

All ideas welcome for food letters suggestions or recipes to share!

Have a great week ahead!
